there is a house in New Orleans

Folks who are saying what I think about New Orleans. Sharp, eloquent, heartfelt. Start with JJ's, the view from Amsterdam.

Survival of New Orleans -- blog & webcam by The Interdictor, in New Orleans
My mom and brother have volunteered to house a New Orleans survivor couple & a family, respectively, in Tacoma & Anchorage. My mom can house someone for up to 2 years. My brother wants a family with children for up to 8 months, as his place is walking distance to a school, and he is interested in stabilizing kids back into school fast. If you know anyone in the New Orleans/ Mississippi who needs a place to live, let me know. My mom & brother are in contact with people in Louisiana, but I thought I'd spread the word here too.

Donate to American Red Cross here. Or here, to use Amazon's faster, no-fee, linked-to-by-Google, goes-to-the-Red-Cross site, with a counter of how much has been contributed.

I love Google & Amazon teaming up. Microsoft chipped in too. In addition to the normal 100%-matching of employee donations to nonprofits, including the Red Cross, MS also donated an additional $million to agencies operating shelters & distribution centers in the area, plus technology teams to help agencies figure out how to speed aid.

Every bit is needed, for stone soup.

We've opened our home and have had a full house since the day after Katrina. One family got wiped out in Moss Point, MS. but we've got room for them until they get back on their feet. My daughter works for a company (Clientlogic) that has donated food and clothing and money to the relief effort daily. Small company, big heart.

What I can't understand about the 'Big Easy' is why didn't they start heliocoptering water in the first day after the storm? There is no excuse for allowing people to die of dehydration when our government has the capabilities to do first things first..and in that situation, dehydration should have been the first consideration.

The world could use a little more Stone Soup. Do they still teach this story in school?

Living in Louisiana 200 miles from New Orleans...I just want to say Thank You for the support. Our citizens are hurting and the danger and lootings are real. I've had people in classes that have family in from New Orleans and have all 31 people in their homes. People are sacrificing but progress is extremely slow and is inadequate. People want to volunteer but no one can direct them as to where and how. Redcross can't or won't help all the victims. Our very small town has 350 victims at least but are told sorry, can't help out. But please don't judge everyone from the looting pics...there are regular people out there that need help...Thanks again to the nation...average citizens and companies are helping just as much if not more than the government right now...thanks again

Thank goodness for Rachel, her Mom, brother and all of you who're opening your hearts and homes and helping in whatever way you can - and having strangers in your home is quite something. This gives me hope. I'll get on and make my donation to the Red Cross.
